Thou Shalt Heal Thyself?
You may be wondering why a homeschooling mom would feel compelled to write a biblical refute of German New Medicine.
On a recent Sunday morning, I woke up and immediately felt that I needed to write this. Why? It’s simple:
Bad theology hurts people.
I have seen people directly hurt by this theory. I have seen people question their parenting or relationships because of this theory. I have seen people question or diminish God’s sovereignty because of this theory. I’ve seen people think they can control outcomes or that they have a secret knowledge that others don’t possess because of this theory. And I’ve quite simply had enough of the devastation this false teaching is leaving in its wake.
I first heard about German New Medicine last fall when someone dear in my life started looking into it. I was initially intrigued because I’m naturally a curious person and I love to learn new things. I also don’t deny the reality that stress or trauma CAN impact one’s physical health (notice the emphasis on “can,” meaning, not always). So, I remained open-minded. But the more I heard over the following months, the more something felt off in my spirit. I started deeply researching this theory and its creator in April 2023. The more I learned and the more I held the theory up to God’s Word, I knew the Holy Spirit was impressing on me that this was not only not of God, but it was a full-blown false teaching.
In this blog post, I will lay out who Dr. Ryke Hamer was, what he believed, and what his theory teaches. I will then discuss other false teachings that are similar, deeper theological issues, and my conclusion on why German New Medicine doesn’t align with a Biblical view of Christianity (and yes, it is important to differentiate Christianity from Biblical Christianity because unfortunately, we are seeing a rise in all kinds of Christians claiming false teachings are compatible with scripture).
Before I dive in, I would like to briefly touch on the subject of discernment.
Please do not take my words alone as your discernment. Do not take your friend’s views on things as your discernment, your family member’s, or your doctor’s., etc. They all may have very solid biblical advice in many different areas, but it doesn’t mean they should be your source of discernment.
Using discernment looks like going to the source of the thing—the person, the teaching, the religion, the practice, etc. and holding that up to scripture—NOT a “Christianized” version where someone is trying to use “christianese” language to make the teaching more palatable. If you are not taking the time to do this, you may be led astray because you are not taking the time to use true, Biblical discernment.
Gotquestions.org defines discernment as “to separate out by diligent search; to examine.” If you are taking someone else’s word for something, that is not discernment. If you’re just believing what you want to believe because it sounds good, you really want to do it, or somebody else said it was okay—that is NOT using discernment. As Christians, we must use discernment.
While I passionately feel the following information speaks for itself in terms of this theory’s inability to be compatible with Biblical Christianity, I implore you to pray about this and research further. Read your Bible without an agenda. Seek counsel from the pastor and elders of your church. Talk to ex-New Agers who God has saved, who can sometimes see things more clearly on topics like these than those of us who have never experienced a different spirituality and may be inclined to see a gray area. And to reiterate, because this is extremely important: using a Christian’s attempt to make a New Age belief fit into a Christian worldview as the authority on the matter does not count as using discernment. We must go to the creator of the teaching itself and hold up his own words on the matter. So, let’s begin!
Part 1: Who was Dr. Hamer?
(The following information has been compiled from a few different sources, which can be found at the end of this post.)
Ryke Geerd Hamer was born on May 17, 1935 in Mettmann, Germany. In 1953, he started studying medicine and theology in Tübingen, where he met Sigrid Oldenburg, a medical student who later became his wife. At 20 years old, Hamer passed the initial examination in medicine, and in April 1962 passed his medical state examination in Marburg, Hesse. He was granted a professional license as a Doctor of Medicine in 1963. After spending several years at the University Clinics of Tübingen and Heidelberg, Hamer completed his specialization in internal medicine in 1972, after 10 long years (the usual time for specialization in Germany is only 5 years). He also worked in several practices with his wife and patented several inventions.
Hamer invented an electric scalpel (Hamer scalpel), an electrically powered chainsaw for bones, a particular couch for patients, and an injection technique. His inventions had no success and would later cause more financial troubles. German company Kienzle tried to market the Hamer scalpel but later discovered that this device caused severe tissue damage when used in curves. Kienzle and Hamer's creditors insisted on his returning money paid in advance and demanded a declaration of bankruptcy. Hamer therefore left Germany in 1978 and moved to Rome.
On August 18th, 1978, while in Rome, the Hamers received the shocking news that their son Dirk had been accidentally shot by the Italian Prince Victor Emanuel of Savoy. On December 7th, 1978, Dirk succumbed to the injuries and died in his father's arms.
Two months after his son's death, Hamer was diagnosed with testicular cancer which was cured conventionally by a surgical intervention in a clinic in Tübingen. According to Hamer, the shock of his son's death caused him to develop testicular cancer within only two months after the event, and also to have caused breast cancer in his wife Sigrid (He would eventually, in honor of Dirk, call this unexpected shock a DHS or “Dirk Hamer Syndrome”). His wife was allegedly cured by Hamer using his New Medicine and thus became his first patient, as Hamer claims in one of his books. She died in 1985, however, after having refused any conventional cure by modern medicine, New Medicine was not able to help her.
Dr. Hamer went on to theorize that every disease originates from a shock or trauma that catches an individual completely by surprise.
His son Dirk played an important role as Hamer claimed to receive spiritually transmitted messages from his son in his dreams. His deceased son apparently confirmed Hamer’s results, he later said in one of his books, and urged Hamer to continue research of New Medicine and to publish the results. Later he considered his son to be the real inventor of New Medicine.
During October 1981, Hamer presented a written habilitation lecture with the title Das Dirk-Hamer-Syndrome und die eiserne Regel des Krebses (the Dirk-Hamer syndrome and Iron Rule of Cancer) to the University of Tübingen. This lecture was then scrutinized by two professors. On May 4, 1982, this habilitation lecture was unanimously rejected by a board of professors (0 votes in favor to 150 against) due to mangelnder Wissenschaftlichkeit und fehlenden Belege (lack of scientific quality and lack of references/proofs). According to the University of Tübingen, Hamer's work was not objective but influenced by personal momentum. The work presented no references to formerly published work and had qualities of a pseudo-science. His work was not presented in a way to be validated later, says the evaluation of the University of Tübingen. Hamer claimed that his system was verifiable and that the University of Trnava in Slovakia had already confirmed some of his theories. In fact, the University of Trnava had no real medical faculty and the documents which allegedly confirmed his view were not available nor registered at the university. That university also rejected his habilitation thesis.
In 1982, Hamer returned to Germany and opened a private clinic in Bad Krozingen. The clinic's name was Sanatorium Rosenhof and Hamer was the only physician present. He did not want to wait any longer to experiment his New Medicine on cancer patients. But New Medicine proved a disaster for cancer patients: after the clinic had been closed by authorities, two journalists were able to identify fifty former cancer patients of Sanatorium Rosenhof and established that only seven of them survived. They published a report in a critical newspaper article.
In 1983, Hamer opened another illegal private clinic called Haus Dammersmoor in Gyhum near Bremen (Lower Saxony), where he once again was the only physician present. This clinic, too, was to be closed by authorities. Hamer years later claimed that some of his patients died in his clinic due to critical newspaper articles about him and his clinic.
In August 1985, Hamer opened another private and illegal cancer clinic as a boarding house in the town of Katzenelnbogen near Koblenz. Hamer was not authorized to treat patients. The name of this clinic was Freunde von Dirk (friend of Dirk). This clinic was also closed by authorities after five months, and outrageous circumstances in that clinic were discovered by authorities after two external physicians made a complaint. Neighbors of the clinic were alarmed by persons screaming or crying whom they saw at the windows and offered food to the patients. Hamer again was the only physician in that clinic and often left patients alone for days without giving contact information like telephone numbers or naming a replacing physician. He went to France several times in order to collect financial donations from a French sponsor (Antoine D' Oncieu de la Batie). In this clinic, many patients from European countries and Germany died, were sent home, or sent to other hospitals just a short time prior to their death. One patient even died during transport to another clinic. Surrounding clinics then refused to accept further dying patients from Katzenelnbogen. According to three women who worked there in 1985 and were interviewed in 2007, no patient was cured there, and almost every patient died. During this period of time, Hamer presented pictures of X-rays from patients to the media to prove the effectivity of his New Medicine. However, some of these patients did not survive the treatment according to New Medicine. TV broadcast Panorama (ARD) and magazine Spiegel instead presented photos of their graves.
At the end of 1985, Hamer was sued by two physicians because of the scandalous conditions in his Freunde-von-Dirk-Hamer clinic in Katzenelnbogen and the Department of Criminal Investigations confiscated material during a house search of that clinic which was then closed by authorities. Hamer moved to Cologne in March 1986 and the district court of Cologne revoked his medical license on April 8, 1986. The sentence of the Cologne district court was based on article 5 of the German Bundesärzteordnung and on two psychiatric expertise by Professor B. Pflug (University of Frankfurt) dated November 27, 1985 and February 2, 1986. Under German law the right to practice medicine can be withdrawn if the doctor's mental abilities have diminished. In an appeal court sentence of the district court sentence of Koblenz which was published, the reasons can be seen in German language. The court sentence of 1986 was reconfirmed in 2003. From that date on, Hamer continued to treat patients without a medical license or any Heilpraktiker-license (license of a German naturopath).
In 1990, Hamer moved to Austria and opened a consultation center in the old castle of Burgau without a medical license for Germany or Austria. He received assistance from the mayor of Burgau, Wallner, as Hamer helped the mayor's wife to perform a New Medicine conflictolysis. As became public later the mayor's wife, despite this intervention, died of cancer. Officially, this consultation center was declared the Austrian branch of Hamer's publishing house Amici di Dirk. Hamer received many financial donations to his bank account at that time. The consultation center in Burgau was finally closed by Austrian authorities and documents were confiscated by the police.
Hamer's license to practice medicine was revoked in 1986 by a court judgment, which was reconfirmed in 2003. As he continued to practice, Hamer was investigated several times over allegations of malpractice and causing the deaths of patients.
Hamer violated German, French, and Austrian laws on numerous occasions and was convicted several times in different countries; he served prison times twice, for at least 3 years.
In 1986, Hamer was sentenced to a fine of 3,000 DM (1,500 Euro) for treating patients without a license. Case file number: 34 Js 85/86 district court of Cologne.
On January 22, 1992 he was sentenced in Cologne to 6 months suspended, again for treating patients without a license. Hamer appealed and on February 12, 1993, the sentence was reduced to 4 months (case 105-99/92). He had tried to cure a young man from bone-cancer by simply applying a cast, so the leg had to be amputated later. (case file numbers: 613 Ls 152/91 and 34 Js 232/89 StA Köln)
On July 27, 1993, Hamer was sentenced to 6 months suspended for defamation in Austria. (district court of Graz).
The parents of Olivia Pilhar were sentenced to 8 months suspended. Hamer could not be prosecuted in the Olivia Pilhar case because he had fled Austria in the meantime.
In 1997, Hamer was arrested in Cologne and, on September 9, 1997, was sentenced to 19 months by the district court of Cologne. He served 12 months in jail in Cologne. Hamer once more was convicted for treating cancer patients without a license. He was sued by several parents of patients having died after a cure with New Medicine. Case file number: 34 Js 178/95 Amtsgericht Köln, and a psychiatric expert opinion attested a psychopathic personality with delusional persuasions, as recorded by the witness Leuzinger.
In 2001, Hamer was sentenced in absence to three years in prison in France after having been sued by French parents of cancer patients who died after treatment with New Medicine in France. An international arrest warrant was issued and Hamer was arrested in Spain in September 2004 and extradited to France. He served the time in France, was released on February 16, 2006 and returned to Spain.
In 2007, he was accused of incitement of hatred against a minority of the population (article 130 of German criminal laws) by prosecutor Robinek in Cottbus/Germany, as Hamer made many public antisemitic statements in open letters and web pages and commented upon an alleged international Jewish conspiracy. Case file number: 1653 Js 2797 / 06.
Before his death in 2017, there was also a private court case pending, with a substantial amount of damages asked, because Hamer advised a patient against chemotherapy.
He never held positions as a head physician or the head of a clinic department, as Hamer claimed without any proof. He was not a psychiatrist, gynecologist, radiologist, or oncologist, as some people state on various web pages or published in several books. He was never a lecturer or a professor. His attempts to become a professor failed, as the University of Tübingen did not accept his lecture qualification in 1982 for good reasons, after having examined it.
In 2006, Hamer made an illogical statement in relation to his son's death, claiming that his son had been killed in 1978 because of Hamer's New Medicine (however, this is impossible, as Hamer's New Medicine was first created in 1981, three years after Dirk's death) and claimed his son was a victim of a conspiracy against his pseudo-medical doctrine.
In 2007, Hamer sought authorization to work as a doctor in Norway. The Board of Medical Practitioners denied his application unanimously. According to the Board, Hamer was unfit to practice and would even pose a risk to his patients if he were to be granted authorization.
Hamer died in Norway from a stroke on July 2, 2017, at the age of 82.
In addition to his controversial pseudoscience, it is reported that Dr. Hamer was antisemitic and believed in many misguided conspiracy theories, including denying the holocaust happened at all and that Jewish people were secretly using German New Medicine to keep their own race alive while the rest of the world perished. He made these numerous public antisemitic statements in open letters and on web pages and accused an international Zionist conspiracy (in particular the New York based B’nai B’rith) of having killed two billion people by hiding the truth about New Medicine. Hamer goes on to allege that his ideas were well known to Jewish scientists but that they deliberately withheld this information from the rest of the world. He said Jews allegedly had killed billions of people with morphine, chemotherapy (their weapon of mass destruction), and radiation treatment. His supposed evidence for this theory is that “No Jew ever gets chemo." He also stated, "We can only solve the conflict by finally understanding that these are all lies of a religious mafia whose goals are obviously to torment and eliminate the people.”
He held Jews responsible for the deaths of every patient who had died while undergoing conventional cancer treatment. According to an article in Austrian newspaper Der Standard in 1995, Hamer denied the holocaust in a conversation with a female cancer patient. Hamer did not know his patient was Jewish herself; she was horrified and reported the incident to the newspaper. She reported that he said: “The Jews had their names beheaded. they weren't killed, they just disappeared. And have a good time under another name, at the expense of the German people, who have to pay reparations. So seven million murdered Jews are alive!”
Hamer did not recognize any limit of his medical knowledge and behaved as an expert in every branch of medicine, as described by the Dunning-Kruger effect, becoming a danger to his patients. Even if his practices and beliefs began out of a true desire to help people, he ended up hurting more people than he helped. In reality, evidence of patients successfully treated by GNM is no more than anecdotal. In fact, there are at least 148 people confirmed to have been killed by his teachings. Hamer attributed the deaths to intervention by conventional medicine or to the patients not being fully committed to his cure. In a way, Hamer reminds me greatly of the Ice Pick Surgeon, Walter Freeman, who performed around 3,500 lobotomies, 2,500 of which were with his “ice pick” procedure. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how well-meaning someone may be if their unwillingness to accept reality causes others harm.
Part 2: The Basics of GNM
As I researched for days to present the most accurate information possible, it became clear that it is extremely difficult to find a “reputable” source for this pseudoscience. Every single source I came across that claimed to have worked directly with Dr. Hamer, studied directly under Dr. Hamer before his death in 2017, or claims to be a leader in this teaching today seems to be calling out others in the German New Medicine field as frauds for various reasons. So what you will see in this section is my best attempt at piecing together information from various leaders or teachers of GNM today. I will first start by sharing information that seems to be agreed upon by all parties based on Dr. Hamer’s original teachings, then share Dr. Hamer’s own words, and finally share the words of those highest up or most well-known in GNM today.
Before we dig in, I wanted to clarify different names you might hear for German New Medicine. Dr. Hamer had first called it “New Medicine,” but realized that people were “plagiarizing or misrepresenting” it, so he decided to legally protect his research under the following names: German New Medicine and Germanic New Medicine. The registered German names are Germanische Neue Medizin and Germanische Heilkunde. Some sources, including Caroline Markolin from www.learninggnm.com, refrain from using the name “Germanische Heilkunde”/GHk, since she believes the term suggests that the knowledge of the Five Biological Laws was handed down by the Germanic peoples and, thus, existed long before Dr. Hamer had made his revolutionary discoveries in the early 1980s. Others in the community often refer to it as GNM or GHk. So to summarize, you may see any of the above names used by different people to reference German New Medicine, but they are all talking about the same thing.
Now let’s look at what Dr. Hamer’s theory teaches. At the core of German New Medicine are the “Five Biological Laws.”
Five Biological Laws Summarized
All “dis-eases” (AKA “Significant Biological Special Programs” or SBS) begin with a conflict shock (AKA “Dirk Hamer Syndrome” or DHS—this is an unexpected, highly acute, and isolating conflict) that affects the psyche-brain-organ. (This first law is also called “The Iron Rule of Cancer”.)
Under this first law, the content of the conflict determines which organ will be affected and from which area of the brain the SBS will be controlled.
Every SBS runs synchronously on the level of the psyche, the brain, and the organ.
All “dis-eases” follow a two-phase pattern if there is a resolution to the conflict
The first phase is the “conflict-active phase” and the second phase is the “healing phase.”
When you are experiencing symptoms or a “dis-ease,” that is your body healing from the conflict shock.
Tissue changes can be understood from an embryological standpoint
Endoderm = “the oldest brain,” primal, reptilian brain. Breathes, eats, reproduces. Death-fright conflict, morsel conflict, procreation conflict. All of these endoderm tissues in the conflict-active phase will proliferate and make tumors and growths.
Mesoderm = midbrain, mammalian brain/limbic brain, old mesoderm, young mesoderm. Attack conflicts, self-devaluation conflict, nest worry conflict. Cells build up to protect.
Ectoderm = cerebral cortex, new brain. Creates lining of ducts, cervix heart vessels, outer lay of skin, etc. More advanced conflicts like separation conflicts, sexual conflicts, territorial conflict.
Microbes optimize healing
Dis-eases are not contagious.
Bacteria and fungus are the optimizers of the Healing Phase.
Co-evolved, microbiome.
Every “dis-ease” is a meaningful special program of nature
Evolved over millions of years of evolution.
Disease is not an error.
“La Medicina Sagrada” = The Sacred Medicine.
Since we now have a basic understanding of the “Five Biological Laws,” let’s look at some examples of what this means practically—which “conflict-shocks” connect with which “dis-eases.” The following are just some of the many examples you can find online. Autism = territorial anger conflict, scare-fright conflict, territorial fear conflict, identity conflict. Behavior like throwing a tantrum, head banging, hair pulling, self-biting is apparently connected to territorial anger and identity conflicts. Motor tics such as rocking and other repetitive body movements point to feeling stuck, so they theoretically had a conflict-shock from being stuck in the birth canal.
Abnormal cells on cervix = sexual frustration conflict
Acne = feeling attacked, ugly, or disfigured
ADHD = separation conflict, feeling stuck
Back pain = self-devaluation conflict
Bed wetting = territorial marking conflict
Breast cancer = Nest-worry conflict, concerning the well-being of a loved one (including a pet) or worries about the “nest” itself (distress regarding a woman’s home or workplace). The breast glands also correspond to an argument conflict. Typically, the argument (with a partner, one of the children, a parent, a friend) has a “worry”-aspect. Separation conflict experienced as if a loved one was “torn from my breast.” Women suffer separation conflicts through an unexpected divorce, a break-up with a partner, her child, a parent, or a friend or when a beloved person (or pet) dies. The fear of a separation can already activate the conflict. Similarly, the milk ducts correlate to the distress of wanting to separate, let’s say, from a spouse or from a parent because of a betrayal, constant fighting, or abuse. The separation from a home (a woman’s “nest”) also corresponds to the milk ducts.
Cavities = bite conflict (incisors = not being allowed to bite, snap at someone, or show one’s teeth, canines = not being allowed to “snatch” a person, molars = not being allowed to crunch or grind an opponent)
Celiac Disease/Gluten intolerance = indigestible morsel conflict. The conflict is experienced as anger, for instance, anger about a person (a family member, friend, neighbor, colleague, employee, supervisor, client, teacher, student, classmate, coach, doctor, authorities), about a situation (work-related anger, school-related anger, relationship-related anger), or about remarks (accusations, insults, criticism) or news that is “hard to take” or difficult to “digest.”
Chicken pox, measles, rubella = Separation conflict. “Based on the understanding of the Fourth Biological Law, these ‘childhood diseases’ are not contagious viral infections as claimed, but the healing phase of separation conflicts experienced by more children at the same time.”
Coughing/asthma = territorial fear or scare fright
Crohn’s disease = indigestible anger conflict
Depression = In a right-handed male or female: territorial fear conflict, territorial loss conflict, territorial anger conflict, or territorial marking conflict. In a left-handed male or female: scare-fright conflict, sexual conflict, identity conflict, marking conflict
Down syndrome = Motor conflict, separation conflict, fright conflict, existence conflict. Supposedly occurs when a baby experiences a conflict-shock in the first trimester of their mother’s pregnancy. Any loud noise (including an ultrasound) can be a threat, feeling unable to escape. A difficult delivery at birth can cause a territorial anger conflict.
Dyslexia = Separation conflicts experienced in infancy or in early childhood
Gall bladder = male territorial anger conflict
Hair loss = separation conflict
Hemorrhoids = female identity or decision conflict
Hip pain= not able to keep up with unexpected or continuous demands
Homosexuality = Male: brought on by a male territorial conflict, particularly when the conflict occurred at an early age. A territorial loss conflict, for example, could have been experienced through the loss of a parent (divorce, death), including the emotional loss of a parent because of arguments or abuse. A territorial loss conflict might have already happened in utero. A fetus can also suffer the conflict with or on behalf of the mother. Female: brought on by a female conflict such as a sexual conflict (any distress related to sexuality) coupled with a maturity stop.
Left ear infection = undesired sound conflict
Leukemia = self-devaluation conflict
Lyme Disease = feeling soiled conflict, self-devaluation conflict
Mastitis = Separation conflict (Mothers who are separated from their baby, for example after delivery, develop mastitis as soon as they are able to nurse their infant uninterrupted).
Melanoma: Attack conflict, feeling soiled. A feeling soiled-conflict could be triggered through physical contact with a person who is regarded as repulsive, for instance, a drunk person, a smelly person, or a person who has a “contagious disease.” Archaic form of defense that serves the biological purpose to provide a protective layer or “thicker skin” against further attacks. It is supposedly the fear of skin cancer that results in the development of a melanoma.
Menstrual cramps = femininity, sexuality, womanhood conflict
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) = feeling stuck, falling conflict, self-devaluation conflict
Neck pain = intellectual self-devaluation or injustice conflict
Postpartum depression = only occurs when the pregnant woman experienced a male territorial conflict during gestation or during delivery. Such conflicts include territorial loss conflicts (loss of her home, loss of the father of her child, loss of a family member or close friend), territorial anger conflicts (anger at home or at work, arguments with the partner or spouse, a difficult pregnancy, uncomfortable pregnancy examinations), or territorial fear conflicts (fears of a miscarriage, fears about the healthy development of the baby).
Prostate cancer = procreation mating or gender conflict
Sinus issues = stink conflict. Literal or figurative—annoyances, frustration, fed up, suspicion, sniffing out danger, missing the smell of someone.
Small intestine issues = anger, feeling cheated or deprived
Sore throat = can’t swallow conflict
STDs/Venereal diseases = “Can’t be sexually transmitted since the symptoms are already healing symptoms. The fear of having contracted a ‘sexually transmitted disease’ could also activate a separation conflict. The distress experienced through unwanted sexual practices or forced prostitution explains why the incidence of these is more common among particular groups and populations.”
Thyroidism = feeling powerless conflict
Tonsil = morsel conflict
Tummy problems = indigestible morsel conflict
Rashes, eczema = separation conflict
Shingles = feeling attacked, feeling soiled
German New Medicine denies the existence of viruses and contagious diseases. It teaches that if everyone in your house has cold symptoms or a stomach bug, you’re all just experiencing the healing phase of the same conflict shock at the same time. While I will get into theology and a deeper dive into the Bible later on, I have to add something here: throughout the Bible we see many examples of contagious diseases. We even see God’s command for people to isolate themselves while experiencing different contagious diseases, so as to not spread disease to the rest of the community (Leviticus 13-15). The moral principle for this command is seen later in Leviticus 19:16, when God says, “ Do not do anything to endanger your neighbor’s life.” Please keep this in mind as you prayerfully discern what German New Medicine is teaching.
GNM also teaches that genetic correlations/predispositions don’t exist, but rather there are just familial processing issues/trauma. So if heart attacks, thyroid issues, vision problems, or a certain kind of cancer run in your family, they say it’s not because of genetics, but that the people in the family who all have those things in common deal with the same kind of conflicts in similar ways.
“Since families share the same cultural and social conditioning, the same indoctrinations, the same beliefs, and so forth, they often experience the same type of conflicts, causing the same ‘diseases’. Nonetheless, even if members of a family or generations of families experience the same type of conflicts, the conflict shock itself is still a highly personal event which in that instant involves solely the brain, or rather the brain relay, of the person suffering the conflict at that particular time. This is why diseases cannot be passed on to future generations nor can they be inherited from a family member or ancestor genetically.”

To help you further understand German New Medicine’s teachings, let’s look at an explanation for cold symptoms by Andi Locke Mears, who has been a teacher and consultant for German New Medicine since 2009, currently teaches the “GNM for Practitioners Course,” and co-founded “Germanic Healing Knowledge Global.”
“Let's look at the common cold because that's something that most of us had experienced. Do you really catch a virus from somebody else? Something comes into our body and knows exactly where to go to give us exact symptoms? No. That's not an accurate description of what's occurring. What happened is that you had a stink conflict. What is a stink conflict? Well, something stinks. Something was lousy in your life, something you were fed up with. At the moment of the conflict shock, when you're totally fed up with something, you're psyche started a program that reduced the number of cells in your sinuses because your body wanted to help you survive this issue. ‘Let's not smell this person in anymore. Let's get away from this person.’ This is so counterintuitive to what we've been taught. I know that. Hang in with me! So, we've had a stink conflict. We're upset. We're totally fed up. We're losing cells in our sinuses. Biologically, we don't want to smell that person that we're fed up with and were, and if we can't smell it, then our psyche says, well, we're no longer near then which means the crisis has been averted. This whole mechanism helps us to get away from it. Our psyche knows that losing cells in our sinuses will help us resolve this program. Let’s say you're on a city bus and somebody sits next to you who obviously has a bad cold. They're sneezing, they're coughing all over you, and you're thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, they're sitting right next to me. I can't believe this; they're spraying their germs all around me.’ Instantly you have a conflict shock. You are now losing cells in your sinuses right there on the bus so you could no longer smell this person that you don't want to be near. A few days later, you're away from this person. You're not even thinking about them anymore. Your psyche has realized, ‘Okay, we're not in any danger. We're away from that person. We lost cells. We need to refill them.’ Healing always takes place in a liquid environment, so our body brings liquid to our sinuses and that process helps us to replenish the holes that we created a few days ago on the bus. This is what we call a common cold. It's the healing phase of a stink conflict. Nothing has invaded you. There are no microbes that have entered to wreak havoc with you.”
In addition to the “Five Biological Laws,” Hamer believed that music in itself had healing abilities. A woman named Giovanna Conti wrote a book called “The Biological Meaning of Music,” which essentially says that musical compositions all contain Hamer’s 2nd biological law—The Law of the Two Phased Development of all Diseases. She then shared this with Dr. Hamer and he reportedly heard of a patient who got better by “listening to his song” after a months long bout of Bronchitis. When Dr. Hamer started to test this further with his own song, “Mein Studentenmaedchen,” he reported that there were noticeable effects it had on physical and emotional challenges and that the structure of the song was what was responsible for the changes in his patients.
Supposedly the “mathematical structure was perceived by the brain through music and through listening to it constantly, created a kind of stasis where the conflict activity taking place in the cerebrum was downgraded to a level where there was virtually no conflict activity taking place…In the old brain, which is comprised of the cerebellum and pons of the brainstem, the conflict activity was ‘put on hold.’ In a situation where the patient was undergoing a healing phase, listening to the music was able to help them to get through it much faster than under normal circumstances. This was especially evident when they were in what we call a ‘hanging healing’ more commonly known as a chronic condition.”
Dr. Hamer said, “We now have the template with the love song I composed for my wife all those years ago, so we don’t have to look any farther or even create anything new.” He suggested that anyone that wished to experiment with his song listen to it “as many hours as possible day and night. 24 hours is preferable.” You can listen to his “healing song” here.
Another thing Dr. Hamer taught was that “constellations” have a significant influence on the development of a person’s character and behavior. A “constellation” in GNM can be brought on when someone has a conflict shock that has two aspects. For example, if you receive a cancer diagnosis and it triggered at the same time an existence conflict and a death-fright conflict. According to Hamer, a constellation can be permanent or recurring due to “tracks” or “conflict relapses.” The goal with constellations is to “transform a hyper-constellation into a hypo-constellation, in order to prevent complications that potentially arise during the healing phase.” In German New Medicine, there are many different constellations: aggressive constellation (territorial anger conflict and identity conflict), Casanova constellation and Nympho constellation (territorial loss conflict and sexual conflict), cerebral medulla constellation (self-devaluation conflict and loss conflict), post mortal constellation (territorial loss conflict and sexual conflict), schizophrenic constellation, and a flying constellation (territorial fear conflict and scare-fright conflict). Hamer teaches that these constellations explain things like why people become addicted to porn or sex, why people are abusive, why people suffer from depression or suicidal thoughts, and why people kill or rape. On a smaller scale, he taught that these constellations explain things like why people are perfectionists, procrastinators, homebodies, tidy, messy, etc.
Now that we’ve looked at what GNM teaches, let’s look at some quotes that come directly from Dr. Hamer himself. There are a lot of things to read here, but they are important because they show not only the man behind the theory, but his ideology and how he views creation. This is important because it sets a precedent we will observe later in the theology part of this post, where you will see that a man’s words and beliefs deeply matter when it comes to what we as Christians choose to engage with. There are also further examples shown in his own words of things like allergies and cancer from a GNM perspective.
“We can finally understand our connection to the cosmos around us and in which we are embedded… While we used to regard Mother Nature as fallible and had the audacity to believe that she constantly made mistakes and caused breakdowns (malignant, senseless, degenerative cancerous growth, etc.) we can now see, as the scales fall from our eyes, that it was our ignorance, arrogance and pride that were and are the only foolishness in our cosmos… 'La medicina sagrada' opens up a new, cosmic, godly dimension!”
“Through the millennia, humanity has more or less consciously known that all diseases ultimately have a psychic origin and it became a ‘scientific’ asset firmly anchored in the inheritance of universal knowledge; it is only modern medicine that has turned our animated beings into a bag full of chemical formulas."
“The 5th Biological Natural Law is truly the quintessence of the previous four Laws. This quintessence contains not only the previous strictly scientific laws, but also opens a new dimension. It is, as it were, the soul of the German New Medicine. To take yet another step; in one stride, this 5th Natural Law allows us to connect the scientific facts with that which we have previously thought to be something transcendental, supernatural, parapsychological, or explainable only by religion, something which we feel and experience, but for which there has been no room in scientific thinking models. This law gives us an understandable connection to the universe…In essence, every disease should be understood as an evolutionary meaningful biological program of nature. In other words, every disease presents a specific program that solves an exceptional, unanticipated biological conflict. It is a new way of looking at disease as a significant biological program of nature interpreted through the evolution of species.”

At the height of the healing phase, when the body retains a lot of water, we see the epileptic or epileptoid crisis, which shows a different symptom for every disease… The epileptic crisis is something Mother Nature devised a billion years ago.”

“Carcinogenic substances do not exist! Scientists have experimented on so many animals and never found anything that caused cancer. There was an idiotic experiment conducted with rats when, for a whole year, the rats had concentrated formaldehyde sprayed into their noses, a substance they would normally avoid. These poor animals got mucous membrane cancer in their noses. They did not get it from the formaldehyde but because they couldn't stand the formaldehyde, so they ended up with a DHS - a biological conflict of NOT-WANTING-TO-SMELL the substance!”
“Cancer remains a deadly disease for the ignorant patient who can be manipulated.”
“The reason we call them biological conflicts is because historical evolution has to be understood and an analogy found, as the conflicts run analogously in humans and animals. Biological conflicts have nothing to do with our intellectual or psychological conflicts or problems. They are of a fundamentally different quality. They are, by nature, quasi-implanted trouble-events in the archaic behavior program of our brain. You think that you think. In reality, the conflict has already associatively hit a fraction of a second before you even began to think.”

“A driver involved in an accident whose truck loses all its oil, or a milkman whose truck loses all its milk, are examples of typical ‘water-related’ or ‘liquid-related’ conflicts. The association of the shock from the accident with the liquid causes a water-related biological conflict that registers as a specific ailment - cancer of the kidney. In the case of the kidney cancer caused by a water or liquid related occurrence, a short circuit occurs at the moment of the DHS in a pre-determined place in the brain, causing a problem in the right or left kidney, as the case may be.”
“All our biological conflicts can be categorized according to historical evolution. When the special behavior was programmed throughout our historical evolution, not only the organs and brain areas belonged together but even the conflicts became related. All these psyche-related trouble events lie historically and organically very close together in our brain. They even have the same histological (organic tissues) cell formation. We can see such wonderful order in nature once we learn to look at our organism from its historical evolution.”
“Hay fever used to be the predominant allergy, although it no longer is today. The reason was simple: the first lovemaking between young people usually took place in haystacks because they were the least expensive and most inconspicuous nuptial beds. DHS’s often occurred when these intimate situations were either unexpectedly interrupted or ended unhappily. The partner who experienced the DHS and who suffered the biological conflict might later involuntarily remember the catastrophe in the hay without realizing the connection. The association of the smell of hay is what brings the 'allergy to hay'. The swelling (edema) in the para-nasal sinus, so-called 'hay fever', only occurs in the healing phase. The smell of the hay is connected and associated with the DHS because of the compromising experience.”
“An animal can only survive by real conflict resolution. The hart will only be able to survive if he regains his territory. The animal mother robbed of her cub can only survive if she gets her cub back. Mother Nature has a built-in remedy so that the mother quickly gets a new offspring and solves her conflict. We should solve our conflicts as practically and as realistically as the animals. A man whose wife has left him either needs to get his wife back or get another woman. The hart needs his territory back or another territory. A permanent solution is the best solution.
“For man and mammal, the oldest conflicts originate from the brain stem and result in cancerous growths - tumors. The resolution of these conflicts leads to a breakdown of the tumor and restoration of health. The old brain controls the organs of the endoderm, the innermost germ layer in our organism. This was the first system to appear in the embryo, later to be covered by the mesoderm and the ectoderm over several million years of evolution.”
“Disease is not a meaningless ‘error’ of nature or biology but a special program created by nature over millions of years of evolution to allow organisms to override everyday functioning and to deal with particular emergency situations; they are wonderful programs and, if understood correctly, provide the individual and the group with a way to deal with ‘out of the ordinary’ circumstances.”

While others who carry on with teaching and practicing German New Medicine are obviously not speaking for Dr. Hamer since his death in 2017, their words matter as well. The language these teachers and practitioners use is incredibly similar to New Age and other false healing teachings. And while one could argue that they don’t fully represent German New Medicine, I would completely disagree with that. As you will see from the following quotes and thought processes, it isn’t just coming from one person—it is the entire ideology surrounding this pseudoscience that all started with Dr. Hamer. Let’s look at some of the top teachers and practitioners of GNM to see what they have to say:

There is very little information out there on German New Medicine, so it’s not heavily discussed, either in favor or against. But here are what some who oppose German New Medicine have to say:“Medical journalist Dr. Krista Federspiel, who has studied Germanic New Medicine and numerous other fringe medical groups extensively, calls it brainwashing. She says that followers of this cult-like group suffer from a massive loss of reality, believing everything without criticism or questions.”
“GNM is a mainly diagnostic construction and may be seen as a primitive reinvention of some obsolete concepts of psychosomatic medicine, mixed with pseudoscientific, unvalidated tests of Hamer's own invention and a grotesquely erroneous interpretation of CT brain scans. Some of his ideas have already been proposed before (e.g. Christian Science and anthroposophic medicine etc.)… According to Hamer's theory, all severe diseases, such as cancer, can be healed in 95% of all cases by performing a so-called conflictolysis according to GNM. Failures of his method or the death of patients are consistently attributed to interventions of scholastic medicine, the use of morphine, or the patient's not being totally committed to GNM. Hamer does not present any literature supporting his ideas; some of his assertions, however, remind of concepts to be found in anthroposophical medicine and other concepts developed earlier than 1981. No prospective and scientifically controlled clinical test has been made so far to prove a possible efficacy, and no peer-reviewed articles in serious medical journals exist.”
“The worst thing about the German New Medicine is that it feeds into another common strain in ‘alternative medicine’ thought, namely to blame the victim. In the case of this particular form of cancer quackery, cancer isn’t a disease but rather a manifestation of something going on in the mind. If the cancer patient can’t overcome this ‘trauma’ and thus dies, the implication is that it’s the cancer patient’s fault. If only he had believed more or done more to follow the particular woo that is supposed to save him, he would still be alive today.”
As mentioned in part 1, there are at least 148 confirmed deaths at the hand of Dr. Hamer because of his teachings and illegal practicing of medicine. These numbers have been documented in court documents, newspaper articles, and have been reported by former patients and their relatives, as well as by former employees and nurses working in his practices or clinics.

Part 3: Other False Teachings
As Biblical Christians, we must seek to glorify God in all that we do, all that we read, all that we watch, all that we listen to, and all that we believe. 1 Corinthians 10:31 summarizes it this way: “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
So that begs the question: What glorifies God when it comes to the things we believe about healing and our bodies? To answer that question, I would like to first look at things that clearly do NOT glorify God when it comes to what we believe about healing and sickness.
Gotquestions.org says, “As believers, our responsibility is not to follow medical fads but to investigate the validity of all claims. Our conclusions must be based on research bolstered by God’s viewpoint and not on humanistic or New Age values…A wise believer should be wary of anything that sounds ‘too good to be true,’ but that caution applies to every aspect of our lives. We are to be good stewards of what God has given us and that stewardship extends to our bodies and our health. We should be wise in how we treat ourselves and in the ways (and from whom) we seek medical treatment.”
The above quote gives us some words I want to define: Humanism and New Age, as well as some others I want us to look at:
Humanism a philosophical stance that emphasizes the individual and social potential, as well as the agency of human beings, whom it considers the starting point for serious moral and philosophical inquiry.
New Age is a counterfeit philosophy that appeals to the feelings of individuals, leading them to think that they can enhance their lives through their own person.
The New Age is the old Satan playing on our deepest longings for peace, connection, abundance, and immortality. An estimated one in three Americans accepts various elements of New Age ideology.
Pantheism is a doctrine that equates God with the forces and laws of nature.
Pantheist belief does not recognize a distinct personal god, anthropomorphic or otherwise, but instead characterizes a broad range of doctrines differing in forms of relationships between reality and divinity.
Naturalism is the idea that only natural laws and forces (as opposed to supernatural ones) operate in the universe.
Paganism for the most part, has no religion and indulges in worldly delights and material possessions.
Everyone is considered to be part of this Mother Earth.
They believe that nature is sacred.
Syncretism is “the reconciliation or fusion of differing systems of belief.” More recently, religious syncretism can be seen in such religious systems as the New Age, Hinduism, Unitarianism, and Christian Science. These religions are a blending of multiple different belief systems and are continually evolving as the philosophies of mankind rise and fall in popularity.
Therein lies the problem, for syncretism relies on the whim of man, not the standard of Scripture.
Eclecticism is the pasting together of various and diverse doctrines and practices. Eclecticism draws from many different belief systems to create a personalized pastiche of religion.
Eclecticism takes a utilitarian approach to religion and truth. If it “works”—if it makes me happy, if it brings a sense of serenity, if it helps me get off drugs—then it is “true for me.” Eclecticism is a false teaching that relies on subjectivity, relativism, and “itching ears.” Eclecticism brings confusion and compromise and leads to destruction.
Metaphysical healing is a holistic treatment modality based on the understanding that negative mental processes can result in physical disease – and, in turn, that the establishment of positive mental processes can lead to physical healing.
With metaphysical healing, we look beyond the physical body and address the mental patterns that could be causing illness.
According to this theory, we create every so-called illness in our body. The body, like everything else in life, is a mirror of our inner thoughts. They teach that every cell within our body responds to every single thought we think and every word we speak. Negative thinking patterns can cause us to develop disease in our bodies.
Metaphysical healing is when people look to address the thinking patterns that may be causing their illnesses. When you get sick your body is telling you that something you're doing isn't good for you. You can choose thoughts that create a healthy mental atmosphere or thoughts that contribute to illness.
Energy healing is a branch of alternative medicine based on a pseudo-scientific belief that you can channel "healing energy". The field is defined by shared beliefs and practices relating to mysticism and esotericism in the wider alternative medicine sphere rather than any sort of unified terminology, leading to terms such as energy healing or vibrational medicine being used as synonymous or alternative names.
Energy healing encourages us to put our full trust in ourselves and our own bodies, which is a form of worship. For most who participate in energy healing, no recognition is given to the one true God, nor does He receive any praise for healing. The person using these methods of healing has made himself into his own god. Getting involved in energy healing is spiritually dangerous, to say the least.
Spirit Science purports to rediscover ancient wisdom and to offer a view of reality midway between the seemingly opposite views of religion and science.
According to the Spirit Science website, “Consciousness is the key factor that brings both Science and Religion into each other’s arms. Consciousness is the understanding that you are more than your physical body, you are a conscious being that is one with everything, and that the experience is the reason for doing anything!”
According to Spirit Science, humans create their own realities, both individually and as a whole, through the power of thought.
Spirit Science recognizes bits of truth—that our spirits are important aspects of who we are and the reality of the mind-body connection. However, it does all this apart from God. In Spirit Science people are told they are the masters of their own fate…They are told to create any reality they want. They are led to believe that special knowledge is the key, in many ways similar to the gnostic heresies present in the early church.
New Thought Movement teaches that illness in the body originated in the mind and that bodily illnesses could therefore be overcome with the “Truth.” The creator, Quimby, said that if the mind was corrected of wrong thinking, the body would be cured of its diseases and problems.
Teaches the assertion that “true human self-hood is divine.” Within this we see the original lie that Satan told man: through knowledge of good and evil “you will be like God” (Genesis 3:5). Satan appealed to man on the basis of man’s desire to attain divinity and to control his own destiny. The New Thought movement appeals to people on the same basis, enchanting followers with the lie of divine potential.
New Thought ideology is directly opposed to biblical teaching. We cannot create our own reality by “positive thinking” or become healthy by declaring ourselves to be so. The reality is that disease of the body is a result of the fall of creation.
Christian Science teaches the idea that disease in the body is caused by problems in a person’s thoughts.
Rather than teaching that Jesus heals our spiritual sickness, Christian Scientists see Jesus’ ministry as their own paradigm for healing, believing it demonstrates the centrality of healing in regard to salvation.
For most Christian Scientists, spiritual healing is an effective first choice and, as a result, they turn to the power of prayer in lieu of medical treatment.
Christian Science is neither Christian nor based on science. Christian Science denies all the core truths of what makes a system “Christian.” Christian Science is, in fact, opposed to science and points to mystical new-age spirituality as the path for physical and spiritual healing. Christian Science should be recognized and rejected as the anti-Christian cult that it is.
“Whenever you are faced with a problem, regardless of its nature, seek the solution within your own consciousness.” – Joel Goldsmith
Based on Dr. Hamer’s own words, his beliefs, and his teachings, I believe that German New Medicine has hints of all these things within it and it is why I will make the argument in the rest of this post that German New Medicine is not compatible with Biblical Christianity. While I wish I had time to connect all of these religions or philosophies to German New Medicine, I will spend the rest of this section discussing New Age and Christian Science more in-depth, because I believe these are the two teachings that most closely mirror it, especially for Christians who are attempting to “Christianize” German New Medicine.
Christian Science
“Christian Science was begun by Mary Baker Eddy (1821-1910), who pioneered new ideas about spirituality and health. Inspired by her own experience of healing in 1866, Eddy spent years in Bible study, prayer, and research of various healing methods. The result was a system of healing she dubbed ‘Christian Science’ in 1879. Her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, broke new ground in the understanding of the mind-body-spirit connection. She went on to found a college, a church, a publishing enterprise, and the respected newspaper ‘The Christian Science Monitor.’ Because of its similarity to other groups, many believe Christian Science to be a non-Christian cult.”
“Christian Science teaches that God—Father-Mother of all—is completely good and wholly spiritual and that all God’s creation, including the true nature of every person, is the flawless spiritual likeness of the Divine. Since God’s creation is good, evils such as disease, death, and sin cannot be a part of fundamental reality. Rather, these evils are the result of living apart from God. Prayer is a central way to come closer to God and heal human ills. This differs from the Bible, which teaches that man is born in sin inherited from Adam’s fall and that sin separates us from God. Without God’s saving grace through the death of Christ on the cross, we would never be healed of the ultimate sickness—sin.”
Now let’s look at some quotes from the Christian Science website to learn more:
“Jesus’ ministry illustrates that healing and regeneration are experienced as we recognize our true nature as spiritual and made in the image and likeness of God…She saw that God’s laws are powerful spiritual mandates, always present and operating to heal, to redeem, and to bless humanity.”
“The Bible gives us a standard of healing resting on timeless and universal spiritual laws.”
“Mary Baker Eddy’s work Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures shows how the healings in the Bible were accomplished, and how we can claim that same healing for ourselves, our families, and our world.”
“This treatment is based on an understanding that experience is determined by thought, rather than the material circumstances we may find ourselves in. And just as Jesus proved that healing happens when consciousness is more anchored in the authority and laws of God than in material conditions, practitioners today work with others to resolve any problem through this same scientifically Christian method of healing.”
“Contagion and heredity are diseases of idolatry… Acute or chronic, diseases are unreal, unintelligent. Because disease cannot be found in the one Mind, God, we can prove its nothingness.”
“Metaphysical healing is spiritually uplifting. Spiritualization of thought is its foundation. Only the material senses are unable to cognize the Christ. Furthermore, animal magnetism, mesmerism, and hypnotism yield to transformation and regeneration in this spiritualization of thought.”
And now let’s look at quotes form Mary Baker Eddy’s book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures to directly see her own words. Please pay close attention to the similarities between German New Medicine and Christian Science as you read:
“The act of describing disease — its symptoms, locality, and fatality — is not scientific.”
“Jesus never described dis-ease, so far as can be learned from the Gospels, but he healed dis-ease.”
“Through Christian Science, religion and medicine are inspired with a diviner nature and essence; fresh pinions are given to faith and understanding, and thoughts acquaint themselves intelligently with God.”
“Life, Truth, and Love are all-powerful and ever present; that the opposite of Truth, — called error, sin, sickness, disease, death, — is the false testimony of false material sense, of mind in matter; that this false sense evolves, in belief, a subjective state of mortal mind which this same so-called mind names matter, thereby shutting out the true sense of Spirit.”
“Christian Science reveals incontrovertibly that Mind is All-in-all, that the only realities are the divine Mind and idea. This great fact is not, however, seen to be supported by sensible evidence, until its divine.”
“Mind governs the body, not partially but wholly. I submitted my metaphysical system of treating disease to the broadest practical tests. Since then this system has gradually gained ground, and has proved itself, whenever scientifically employed, to be the most effective curative agent in medical practice.”
“Christian Science explains all cause and effect as mental, not physical. It lifts the veil of mystery from Soul and body. It shows the scientific relation of man to God, disentangles the interlaced ambiguities of being, and sets free the imprisoned thought. In divine Science, the universe, including man, is spiritual, harmonious, and eternal.”
“Health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind.”
“Disease arises, like other mental conditions, from association. Since it is a law of mortal mind that certain diseases should be regarded as contagious, this law obtains credit through association, — calling up the fear that creates the image of disease and its consequent manifestation in the body.”
“Christian Science exterminates the drug, and rests on Mind alone as the curative Principle, acknowledging that the divine Mind has all power.”
“The ordinary practitioner, examining bodily symptoms, telling the patient that he is sick, and treating the case according to his physical diagnosis, would naturally induce the very disease he is trying to cure, even if it were not already determined by mortal mind. Such unconscious mistakes would not occur, if this old class of philanthropists looked as deeply for cause and effect into mind as into matter.”
“When fear disappears, the foundation of disease is gone. A physical diagnosis of disease — since mortal mind must be the cause of disease — tends to induce disease.”
“Through immortal Mind, or Truth, we can destroy all ills which proceed from mortal mind.”
“To fear and admit the power of disease, is to paralyze mental and scientific demonstration.”
“The author never knew a patient who did not recover when the belief of the disease had gone. Remove the leading error or governing fear of this lower so-called mind, and you remove the cause of all disease as well as the morbid or excited action of any organ. You also remove in this way what are termed organic diseases as readily as functional difficulties.”
“The cause of all so-called disease is mental, a mortal fear, a mistaken belief or conviction of the necessity and power of ill-health; also a fear that Mind is helpless to defend the life of man and incompetent to control it. Without this ignorant human belief, any circumstance is of it‐self powerless to produce suffering. It is latent belief in disease, as well as the fear of disease, which associates sickness with certain circumstances and causes the two to appear conjoined.”
“Disease is less than mind, and Mind can control it.”
“The Christian Scientist finds only effects, where the ordinary physician looks for causes. The real jurisdiction of the world is in Mind, controlling every effect and recognizing all causation as vested in divine Mind.”
“If you think that consumption is hereditary in your family, you are liable to the development of that thought in the form of what is termed pulmonary disease, unless Science shows you otherwise. If you decide that climate or atmosphere is unhealthy, it will be so to you. Your decisions will master you, whichever direction they take.”
“Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action.”
“The admission that any bodily condition is beyond the control of Mind disarms man, prevents him from helping himself, and enthrones matter through error.”
“At the right time explain to the sick the power which their beliefs exercise over their bodies. “
“When we remove disease by addressing the disturbed mind, giving no heed to the body, we prove that thought alone creates the suffering.”
“The Scientist knows that there can be no hereditary disease, since matter is not intelligent and cannot transmit good or evil intelligence to man, and God, the only Mind, does not produce pain in matter. The act of yielding one’s thoughts to the undue contemplation of physical wants or conditions induces those very conditions.”
“You should treat sickness mentally just as you would sin, except that you must not tell the patient that he is sick nor give names to diseases, for such a course increases fear, the foundation of dis-ease.”
“Both sin and sickness are error, and Truth is their remedy. The truth regarding error is, that error is not true, hence it is unreal.”
“The facts are so absolute and numerous in support of Christian Science, that misrepresentation and denunciation cannot overthrow it.”
From the above quotes, both from the Christian Science website and Mary Baker Eddy’s own words, I hope you were able to see some similarities between German New Medicine and Christian Science. The following are the things that I observed most noticeably:
Viruses and diseases as we know them do not exist (Mary Baker Eddy even called disease, “dis-ease,” just like Dr. Hamer did more than 100 years after Eddy wrote her book).
Genes do not play a factor in “dis-ease” for both teachings.
Fear/feelings/experiences (like a “conflict shock + healing phase” in GNM) cause “dis-ease” in both teachings.
Both claim you don’t need medical treatments, and that you can heal your “dis-ease.”
Both teach that the power to heal is yours (one claims because of evolution/Mother Nature/divine body, and one claims because of the “Mind”).
Both make idols out of health/self.
Both deny Original Sin as the cause of “dis-ease.”
In summary, both teachings are wrong. Now let’s take a closer look at the New Age.
New Age
It is almost impossible to define New Age teachings because it is such a broad system of beliefs and borrows from so many different traditions. But at the core of every single New Age teaching is this: New Age teachings point people to glorify themselves, while Biblical teachings point people to glorify God; New age teachings point people to get answers within, while Biblical teachings point people to get answers from God’s Word. At the end of the day, there are only two religions in the world: Worship of God or worship of self. If you are not following Jesus, you are automatically in the latter—the worship of self. And we see this very evidently in Dr. Hamer’s teachings and those who follow his teachings.
According to Marcia Montenegro, an ex-New Ager of decades, the following words may indicate a New Age or occult belief: life/universal force, energy, cosmic, divine, healing powers, wisdom of the body, Spirit (as opposed to Holy Spirit), consciousness, etc. As we saw in part 2, the teachings of GNM, these were words used by Dr. Hamer himself, in addition to the highest up teachers and “health coaches” in the GNM world today. That’s not to say these words in themselves prove something’s “New Age-ness,” but when they are all used not just occasionally but repeatedly, it should raise red flags for the biblical Christian.
Let’s look at what Ligonier.com has to say about the New Age Movement:
“New Age proponents hold in common several broad ideas…The New Age movement teaches that we have everything in ourselves necessary to achieve fulfillment. The self is the highest good. We exist to guide ourselves, heal ourselves, and fulfill our own destinies. The idea that we have the power in ourselves to progress, achieve harmony, and guide our own destiny is supremely attractive to fallen men and women who want peace and freedom but not on God’s terms. Contrary to the New Age movement, Scripture teaches that the living God works out His eternal, sovereign decree in the works of creation and providence. The Creator maintains His sovereignty, and the creation maintains its dependence on Him. Herman Bavinck explained, ‘The theism of Scripture posits a connection between God and the world, simultaneously maintains the absolute sovereignty of God and the complete dependence of his creatures, thus avoiding both the error of pantheism and that of Deism.’ The triune God is sovereign over all His creatures. There is nothing that lies outside His eternal plan. God has not invested in creation the ultimate power to determine the course of social and cultural ideologies. Neither is He part of the created world. God lies outside time and space, dwelling in eternity…All creation is utterly dependent on God for all things. God has not invested an independent power into creation. Rather, He has made known His power through the preaching of the cross (1 Cor. 1:18, 24)…Redeemed humanity will never become divine. There will always be a distinction between the Creator and the creature…In all forms of New Age spirituality, individuals are seeking a peace, unity, and fulfillment that can be found only in Jesus Christ.”
In case you’re still wondering how German New Medicine can be classified as a New Age teaching, let me draw from four very important questions theologian Phylicia Masonheimer suggests people use when discerning if a teaching is biblical or New Age:
Is this teaching centered on Christ? Who is the power source in this teaching—God or self?
Is this led by Word and Spirit? Is it leading me to both the Holy Spirit and God?
Am I grounded in the Word of God or am I seeking my answers/hope in this?
What impact does my participation in this teaching have on the people I am called to disciple?
When it comes to German New Medicine, it is abundantly clear that this is not a Biblical teaching. At the core of the actual teaching (NOT a Christian’s attempt to make it more palatable), the power source is the self, the teaching does not lead one to God, the answers are found in the self, and it leads people astray by idolizing health/themselves over Christ alone. It is simply incompatible with Biblical Christianity.
Does this mean Christians can’t participate in or believe anything that didn’t originate from a Christian? Of course not! And that’s not what I’m saying or implying when I say German New Medicine is unbiblical. There is a difference between believing in proven scientific truths that were discovered by atheists or agnostics but align with Christian principles as laid out in the Bible, and believing in a pseudoscience that is steeped in false teachings that glorify self and hyper fixate on emotions and experiences, contrary to biblical teachings.
1 John 4:1 says, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.”
How do we test the spirits? We hold EVERYTHING up to Scripture! I remember learning that in order for bankers to determine if money is counterfeit, they don’t study counterfeit money—they study the real thing. This is the analogy we must follow when it comes to testing the spirits. Don’t look at the teaching alone, look at the Bible and pray for God’s guidance and discernment!
Doreen Virtue, an ex-New Ager of decades, says the following about New Age teachings:
“The devil tries to counterfeit God. So he offers answers through feel-good, ego-stroking methods that are a mixture of truth and lies, designed to lead you away from God and to give you destructive advice. The only reliable source of answers is the bible.”
“The new age isn’t new. Idolatry and paganism are ancient sins. If you want a new life, turn to Jesus alone as your Lord and Savior.”
“One of the first things they teach you in new age indoctrination is that evil is an illusion. Once you believe that, the devil can work without you noticing. ‘Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.’”
“People use new age methods in an attempt to control their lives, not realizing that it’s handing over the keys to control their lives to the devil.”
While New Age teachings can consist of things like tarot cards, Ouija boards, yoga, crystals, and reiki, people are deceived when they think it can’t be more covert than that. The reason this term encompasses so many teachings and beliefs is because of the philosophy they are rooted in—it is all based on gaining knowledge of the self and the world rather than being satisfied with knowing God.
It goes back to the Garden of Eden in Genesis 3 when the Serpent said to Eve, “Did God really say? You shall not surely die. Your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing…”
Satan’s main enticement has always been to acquire knowledge and thus become like God, “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God (Genesis 3:5). Satan’s own fall from glory was this same error (Isaiah 14:13-14). Satan still deceives people today the same way he did in the Garden of Eden: “You do not need God—you can be God!” But just like Satan will fail in his own attempt to be God (Isaiah 14:15, Revelation 20:10), so will all those who seek to be like God: “'You are ‘gods’ but you will die like mere men” (Psalm 82:6-7).
Additionally, those who do not turn to God alone for Truth are left with nothing but searching for answers within themselves. “The idea of self-healing encourages us to put our full trust in ourselves and our own bodies, which is a form of worship. For most who participate in self-healing, no recognition is given to the one true God, nor does He receive any praise for healing. The person using these methods of healing has made himself into his own god” (gotquestions.org).
Regardless of the religion, philosophy, or teaching, the Bible condemns anything that removes God as the sovereign Creator.
Part 4: Theology
Now it’s time for the most important part of this post—theology. If you are unfamiliar with the term, theology is the study of God. In order to know if something is Biblical or not, we must study God’s Word and see what God says. In this section, we will look at what the Bible says about healing and suffering, the root of all disease, trauma healing, Christian liberty, a note to Christians participating in this (either actively or passively by confirming others’ involvement with it), and a summary of why what German New Medicine teaches directly goes against Biblical Christianity.
Healing in the Bible
“A miracle is when we ask God to heal if it is His will and use the physical means He has given us. Magic is when we bend reality by our own will.” Huntress at Home
I want to start by talking about healing, because that is the core of German New Medicine—they claim to know why all disease happens and they believe they can heal themselves by their own efforts. Sounds convenient, right? But the Bible is very clear on what it teaches about healing, and German New Medicine could not be further from the truth. So let’s dig into the Bible to see what it has to say about healing.
Let’s start by looking at why sickness even happens, according to God’s Word:
We live in a fallen world
In Genesis 2:16-17, God told Adam that he was free to eat from ANY of the trees in the garden, with the exception of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God told Adam if he ate from that tree, he would die.
In Genesis 3, Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and God cursed the serpent and the ground. In addition to those two things being directly cursed, the curse of sin entered the world, which leads to death. Part of death involves the decaying of our bodies—AKA sickness, diseases, cancer, autoimmune disorders, old-age, genetic malfunctions, deformities, etc. There is no escaping the curse of sin; it will affect every single person, in one way or another.
“Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.” Romans 5:12
Consequence of sin
Sickness itself is not sin. But if we choose to sin and disobey God’s Law, there are often natural consequences. That can look like intentionally choosing not to take care of your body by filling it with bad things frequently, not keeping sex within the confines of marriage, living recklessly, etc.
God’s glory
Lastly, we see sickness happen in the Bible at times for God’s glory. John 9:1-3 says, “As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, ‘Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?’ Jesus answered, ‘It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.”
“Can God heal? Yes. But sometimes He will glorify Himself through your suffering, your sickness, and even your death.” -Costi Hinn
While God may choose to heal someone now, He may choose to have that healing wait until Heaven. Either way, He is still good and He is still God! And we can trust in Romans 8:28, that says, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Throughout the Bible, we see many examples of God and Jesus healing people or using others to heal people. There are 12 healing stories in the Old Testament and 22 healing stories in the New Testament. Here are just some of the amazing examples we see: He used Elijah to heal the widow’s son (1 Kings 17:10-24). He used Elisha to tell Naaman to bathe in the Jordan River seven times and he was cured (2 Kings 5). Jesus healed the woman who had been sick for 12 years, because she reached out in faith and touched the hem of Jesus’ cloak (Matthew 9:20-22). Jesus raised the daughter of Jairus from the dead (Matthew 9:23-26). Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead (John 11:1-44). Jesus healed two blind men and a demon-possessed man who couldn’t speak (Matthew 9:27-33). Jesus healed the paralyzed men carried by his friends and put through an opening in the roof (Mark 2). John and Peter healed a man who had been unable to walk (Acts 3).
What do these stories show us? That God cares for His people—He is compassionate and He can truly do anything. This quote from She Reads Truth sums it up beautifully: “Miracles are breadcrumbs that lead us to the One who answers our need. They themselves are not the prize or the point, because He is already actively both. Miracles teach us that Jesus is God’s glory purposed for redemption. He came to show us His power to heal, but more importantly, to show us we’ve already been healed in Him.”
While we should absolutely pray for healing and do things to take care of our bodies as they are temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19), we also see in scripture that it is not always God’s will to heal us physically on earth. We WILL be healed, but for some, that might not be until Heaven, when our bodies are fully restored and free from the curse of sin (1 Corinthians 15:50–53, Revelation 21).
Now here are some examples given from Pastor Costi Hinn on times Jesus intentionally DIDN’T heal in the Bible:
Jesus healed just one man out of a multitude of sick people at the Pool of Bethesda (John 5:3-8)
Jesus didn’t heal people in His hometown of Nazareth (Matthew 13:58).
After a healing-spree in the district of Galilee, Jesus plainly decided to go somewhere else to preach even though desperately sick and hurting people were looking for Him (Mark 1:38).
His reasoning was simple: “Let us go somewhere else to the towns nearby, so that I may preach there also; for that is what I came for.” Christ didn’t come to earth to hold a healing crusade, He came to bring salvation!
Paul wielded miraculous gifts yet told Timothy to take wine for his stomach issues. Why didn’t the Apostle wield his gift of healing? (1 Timothy 5:23).
Paul also left one of his faithful ministry teammates, Trophimus, sick at Miletus. Why didn’t he heal him and bring him along? (2 Timothy 4:20).
Clearly, God heals as He wills and even sovereignly controlled the specially gifted Apostles. God’s will in healing is not a formula that man can master.
As Jesus stated in Mark 1:32-38, He didn’t come to earth to just heal people physically—He came to save people’s souls and show God’s glory. While He of course showed His love and compassion through healing some, He also showed His sovereignty in not healing all. Does it make Him unloving that He didn’t heal all? Of course not! And if the healings we see in the Bible don’t point us to God’s glory, but rather make us think it is a precedent to always expect or demand healing, we are making physical health an idol.
According to Costi Hinn, here are some things God doesn’t heal on the basis of:
Based solely on faith
You can’t “believe” your way into getting healed. You can’t name it and claim it. You can’t think enough good thoughts or process enough trauma to be healed. True healing is not dependent on you, because true healing comes from God and is not just a physical healing.
Jesus is the Great Physician who places a priority on healing the wayward sinner’s soul, more than He does the physical body.
Based on giving money
No Apostle, no New Testament writer, and not even Jesus Himself, ever told someone to give a financial seed of faith for a healing, a breakthrough, or protection from sickness. It is not God’s will that you give money to be healed.
Based on positive confessions
1 John 5:14 says, “This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.”
Confessing something “in Jesus’ name” doesn’t work as a blanket promise if what you’re asking isn’t the will of God. You’ll know God’s will in regards to your healing based on what actually happens – not based on what you confess.
As I finish the topic of healing in the Bible, let me leave you with this quote from Randy Alcorn: “The ultimate healing is in the resurrection, and it awaits all of us who know him. May our hearts overflow with gratitude when he chooses to heal here and now, but may our ultimate hope rest in the blood-bought eternal healing that is his absolute promise.”
As you can see, our ultimate goal in life is not to seek physical healing. Yes, we are to care for our bodies and pray for God’s will to be done in our health, but if someone believes, as German New Medicine teaches, that we have the ability to heal ourselves by processing trauma we may face in this life (and that trauma AKA “conflict shocks + healing phase” are the root of all diseases), that person is greatly mistaken and is diminishing the reality of the curse of sin and the need for a Savior.
Suffering in the Bible
“I believe our witness is greatest, not when everything is going perfectly. Our witness has the potential to be greater than it ever can be, when we suffer, but we still look to Christ.” -Costi Hinn
Just like how we looked at examples of healing in the Bible, I’d like to look at examples of suffering in the Bible because as Christians, we are told we will suffer (John 15:18-19, John 16:33, 1 Peter 1:6, Acts 14:22). Another reason I believe German New Medicine is unbiblical is because of its hyper-fixation on trauma and experiences that the Bible doesn’t teach us in any way. When it comes to suffering, GNM points its followers to self instead of Christ. There are so many examples of suffering in the Bible, but I’d like to focus on Joseph, Job, and Jesus to see how we as Christians are to respond to suffering.
Joseph was someone who experienced providential suffering—his suffering was orchestrated by God to preserve the family that Jesus would come from (Judah, Joseph’s brother). We learn about Joseph in Genesis and read that his brothers rejected him, then sold him into slavery, he was then brought to a foreign land, imprisoned on false charges, and forgotten by a friend. Years later, Joseph was made the governor of Egypt, second in line to Pharaoh. Because of the political position Joseph was then in, he was able to help other nations during a famine, including his own family (and the brothers who sold him into slavery). In Genesis 50:19-21, Joseph says to his brothers, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” None of those events happened by chance. And while Joseph suffered many years, he trusted in God throughout his suffering and gave him the praise above all.
The entire book of Job shows us an immense amount of suffering. God allows Satan to test Job (Job 1), and Job ends up losing everything: his family, his animals (and therefore his wealth), his servants, his health, etc. And while he has moments of questioning why God is allowing all of this to happen, he remains steadfast in his faith and trusts in God’s sovereignty above all else.
“Each one of us desires to be able to say in the face of trials of such magnitude ‘The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised’ (Job 1:21). Even when Job responds later with questions, and even a measure of bitterness and anger, his frustration is always taken directly to God. Throughout his ordeal Job sought dealings with nobody else but God. And, eventually, in God’s own time, he received an answer that satisfied him. It was not the answer he had sought, but he was content to submit to the truth that God knows best.” -The Storm Breaks, Derek Thomas
James 5:11 says, “Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful.”
Lastly, I’d like for us to look at the suffering of Jesus.
John Piper says, “In the fullness of time, God sent his Son into the world to suffer in the place of sinners. Every dimension of his saving work was accomplished by suffering. In the life and death of Jesus Christ, suffering finds its ultimate purpose and ultimate explanation: suffering exists so that Christ might display the greatness of the glory of the grace of God by suffering in himself to overcome our suffering. Everything — everything — that Christ accomplished for us sinners, he accomplished by suffering. Everything that we will ever enjoy will come to us because of suffering…”
He goes on to summarize it this way:
Christ absorbed the wrath of God on our behalf — and he did it by suffering (Galatians 3:13).
Christ bore our sins and purchased our forgiveness — and he did it by suffering (1 Peter 2:24, Isaiah 53:5).
Christ provided a perfect righteousness for us that becomes ours in him — and he did it by suffering (Philippians 2:7-8, Romans 5:19).
Christ defeated death — and he did it by suffering death (Hebrews 2:14-15, 1 Corinthians 15:55-57).
He disarmed Satan — and he did it by suffering (Colossians 2:14-15).
Christ purchased perfect final healing for all his people — and he did it by suffering (Isaiah 53:5, Revelation 7:17).
Christ will bring us finally to God — and he will do it by his suffering (1 Peter 3:18).
“The ultimate achievement of the cross is not freedom from sickness but fellowship with God. This is what we were made for: seeing and savoring and showing the glory of God. This is the glory of grace, and it could only come by suffering.” -John Piper

Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:1–3
“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” -Hebrews 4:14-16

What beautiful reminders that God uses our pain for a purpose and that He can understand what we’re going through! Suffering, like everything else we will ever experience, is orchestrated by God in His sovereignty. We may never know the specific reasons for why we suffer different things, but we must continue to have faith in God. That is the real answer to suffering. While we may be tempted to try to solve all of life’s problems, seek answers within ourselves, or get lost in despair, we must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.
Through Jesus’ suffering, we can also learn that our lives are not about living without or avoiding suffering. We WILL suffer, and the right response isn’t to turn to ourselves for healing or view suffering as a delay in our healing—it is to turn to Jesus.

Trauma healing
“There is a connection between all of this trauma talk we see among Christians now and the infiltration of the New Age into the church. It is NOT neutral ground.” -Huntress At Home
Trauma has become a much more commonly used word in our culture in recent years. So what actually is trauma? Trauma expert Gabor Mate, MD says “Trauma is not what happens to you. Trauma is what happens inside of you as a result of what happens to you.” Trauma can happen in a number of different ways, but when we are talking about actual trauma, we are usually talking about things like having a crime committed against you or a loved one, abuse, a natural disaster, the loss of a loved one, an accident, etc. When someone experiences something truly traumatic, they may be unable to cope or function as they did before.
When it comes to the “trauma” we see discussed most often today, it is more about a philosophy, and typically not actually related to problems created by traumatic experiences. There is no questioning that people experience traumatic things. And in that case, true and edifying biblical counseling is a great tool to help someone walk through that. But when it comes to “trauma” as we see it in the self-healing communities, this is not what we are talking about. This “trauma” has become a commonplace word to explain any unwanted experience, regardless of the severity. Your mom made you eat all your vegetables as a kid? TRAUMA! You felt unattractive today? TRAUMA! Your child didn’t listen to you? TRAUMA! Someone said something a little rude to you? TRAUMA!
And what is the self-healing communities’ answer to healing any trauma, whatever the level of severity is? It’s within you, of course! Here are just a few quotes from Bethany Webster, the “global expert on the ‘Mother Wound,’” discussing trauma work:
“The challenge is to work with the ego, by releasing the trauma that causes it to be dense and problematic, so that the ego becomes transparent to Spirit.”
“Our true identity is pure awareness, openness and innocence, devoid of concepts or opinions.”
“As humans, we then become conscious and authentic vehicles of spirit.”
“We have to embrace the ego to go beyond the ego and into the boundless heart of Life.”
“Unhealed trauma muffles the inner impulses that guide your authentic brilliance to fully emerge.”
“It is worth everything it takes to find the light of Being within, and to live your life AS that.”
“Despite the challenges, I am here to tell you that it is totally possible to heal your wounds and break through to a new level of Being. Everything you need is within you.”
If you’ll recall some of what we learned about when discussing the New Age, I’m sure you also have a lot of red flags going off with the language used above. This is why, as Christians, we need to be very careful of the things we are believing and letting into our lives. In this kind of trauma healing, it is most important that you always put yourself first and that you always make your wants and needs known to be your “true self.” It is an incredibly egotistical and narcissistic way of living, and the Bible teaches we are to live the opposite of that.
All trauma is rooted in sin. Why? One anonymous Instagram user explained it very well when she said, “Because we live in a fallen world, we all technically have trauma because we’ve sinned against others or have been sinned against and at the end of the day, it comes down to the fact that we’ve all sinned against God first and foremost. There is no escaping that. This current trauma work trend is trying to create a false utopia of existing perfectly in this world…there is no reaching an end goal in trauma work because sin will constantly be present, and offense will always be taken. His word gives the prescription for overcoming sin and it’s only through Christ.”
There is no precedence in the Bible for the “trauma work” we are seeing popularized today. And again, please don’t mistake what I’m saying—I realize there are things that aren’t explicitly stated in the Bible that are permissible for Christians to partake in. I am only talking about the kind of “healing” we are seeing in these self-healing communities. Based on what we see in the Bible, God doesn’t want you to know yourself better so you can heal yourself—He wants you to trust in Him above all else and love God and others more than yourself. We see this clear as day in Matthew 22:36-40: “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all
your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and
the Prophets.”
While our experiences and feelings can of course be valid, they aren’t a barometer of truth. We must not let our experiences rule us—the Word of God should be what rules our hearts. If whatever we think or feel based on our experiences leads us to believe that Jesus is not enough OR that we are enough without Him, those thoughts and feelings are unbiblical.
As I shared in the German New Medicine teachings part of this post, a well-known teacher in the GNM community said this about forgiveness: “Who do you need to forgive, so you can be set free physically? In GHK, we know that forgiveness could be the answer to resolving conflicts…maybe forgiveness is exactly what you need to complete the healing cycle?” -Andie Locke Mears
Do we forgive people or seek forgiveness as a means to complete a “healing cycle”? Are we promised physical healing for forgiving people? Again, what an egotistical and unbiblical way to view the world. We forgive and seek forgiveness because God tells us to do so. Why? Because He has forgiven His children and how much more guilty were we than someone who has offended us? We forgive others because it is the example we have been given. Ephesians 4:31-32 says, “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” Colossians 3:12-13 says, “As the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.”
Gotquestions.org summarizes it this way: “When we forgive, we model God’s teachings on kindness, mercy, love, and humility. People cannot see Jesus in us when we are walking in bitterness and anger. When all we can talk about is how we were wronged, how someone betrayed us, or the wounds we are carrying, we lose sight of our primary mission, which is to make disciples. Unforgiveness makes us self-focused instead of God-focused…We reflect Jesus when we forgive the ones who wronged us, and for believers being like Jesus is the ultimate goal.”
To conclude, trauma work alone won’t heal you and the answers to all of your problems are not within yourself. Forgiveness is not something we do for a personal physical benefit, but because we are commanded to. Huntress at Home, a Christian Instagram user, asks a very thought-provoking question: “Is trauma work the world’s mockery of biblical repentance and forgiveness?”
Based on what we see in German New Medicine in the motives for seeking trauma healing and the source of where that healing comes from, I would answer that question with a resounding YES!
If you are struggling with trauma, I want to leave you with this:
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon
you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” -Matthew 11:28-30
Christian Liberty
“So many people think that ‘Christian freedom’ means freedom to indulge in pagan practices. It doesn’t. The Bible defines Christian freedom or liberty as being free to obey God. It is a desire to please God instead of the self...Christian liberty is not a license to engage in new age idolatry, divination, and polytheism sins.” – Doreen Virtue
I want to talk about Christian liberty because it is a term that can be misunderstood or is commonly misused when a Christian is declaring that they have “Christian liberty” when someone is questioning their activity in an unbiblical practice.
Biblical Christian liberty is a wonderful gift that is based on discernment and personal convictions on matters that aren’t expressly laid out as being unbiblical in the Bible. The most common examples of this that come up in Christian communities today would be things like drinking alcohol, what kind of clothes to wear, participating in Halloween, etc.
I say Christian liberty is a gift because it frees us from the standard that was set before the New Covenant came to be through Jesus’ death and resurrection. Under the Old Covenant, many laws had to be kept to be right with God. Now, those of us who have repented and believed and thus are His children, are right with God because of Jesus perfectly keeping the Law and paying the price for our sins. However, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t seek to obey God and bear good fruit out of an outpouring of love we have for Him. But many Christians are quick to misuse this Christian liberty and use it as a justification for their unbiblical practices.
Tabletalk Magazine says this: “The doctrine of Christian liberty can be abused by careless Christians who misunderstand and/or misuse the doctrine. Paul comes to the rescue here. Note his words in Galatians 5:13: ‘For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.’ Peter agrees: ‘Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. (1 Peter 2:16). Areas of Christian liberty are not an excuse for sin.”
And Ligonier puts it this way: “If we assume that we have liberties to be exercised at all costs, we become potentially lethal weapons in a fellowship, all too capable of destroying someone for whom Christ has died (Rom. 14:15, 20).”
I want to share a couple of quotes from Phylicia Masonheimer on this topic, as it’s also something she is passionate about:
“When it comes to new age ideology, the question is not your consciousness. It’s not about whether you are conscious of this issue, whether or not you’re mature enough or strong enough--that’s a self-centered approach to these issues. The questions is whether your participation in those things is consistent with the witness you have to the people around you, and that includes social media…that’s a part of your responsibility and witness. What we’re seeing today in American culture is the allegiance to self with Christ tacked on: ‘I don’t care about my influence on other people, I only care about my freedom, my maturity, my strength is what matters. It doesn’t matter the impact that my choices have on the people around me.’”
“When it comes to issues of conviction, the question is not what do I personally feel convicted about this—but does this glorify God and honor the Holy Spirit in me and does this draw the people around me to the purity of the Holy Spirit. Not just do I personally feel convicted about it. I might think I can totally participate in this, but if I’m not thinking about the other person, then I’m not actually operating in love.”
“I can tell you that Christians who elevate their freedom above their responsibility to disciple are part of the problem…I’m encouraging you to take seriously your responsibility to disciple, your call to holiness, and your love for God.”
So yes, live in your Christian liberty on things that are not unbiblical OR that your participation in does not negatively impact other people in your life. But do not think that using the term “Christian liberty” to justify your participation in unbiblical and sinful things will stand before God.
Other words people like this will use when upset that they are being questioned in their sin are “dogmatic” and “legalistic.” So, let’s unpack those terms as well. Dogma is a set of codes, beliefs, and principles which are held to be necessarily true and cannot or will not change. So when someone is calling you dogmatic in a situation like this, they are essentially calling you closed-minded and rigid. But here’s the thing—if you are a Christian, you should be dogmatic about the things the Bible is clear about. You should be unwavering in your commitment to God’s Truth. To be clear, this doesn’t mean to be dogmatic about genuine Christian liberty issues, as discussed above, but rather that we be dogmatic on the things that are clear violations of God’s teachings.
Gotquestions.org says, “To be ‘dogmatic,’ that is, to have a strong set of beliefs about faith and doctrine, is often frowned upon in today’s pluralistic culture. Yet believers in Christ are commanded to be dogmatic: ‘Brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings [the dogma] we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter. (2 Thessalonians 2:15). Being dogmatic about Christianity is seen by many as divisive, unloving, and closed-minded. Let’s examine those charges in light of the undeniable dogmas of the faith. Is Christian dogma divisive? Definitely. It divides truth from error, sound doctrine from heresy, and spiritual reality from wishful thinking. Dogma also recognizes and accepts as true the divisions that exist in the many opposites of Scripture: light and darkness, good and evil, law and grace, faith and works, sheep and goats, wisdom and folly, life and death. Christian dogma is also divisive in that it separates those who accept by faith Christianity’s basic tenets from those who deny them. As Christians, we are not to be divisive in our attitudes toward others, but we must cling to truth. Clinging to truth requires rejecting falsehood. ‘Test everything; hold fast what is good’ (1Thessalonians 5:21). Is Christian dogma unloving? Far from it. In fact, it is the epitome of love. It begins with God, who so loved the world that He sent His Son to provide salvation from sin (John 3:16). Christian dogma is based on the love of Christ, who died on the cross out of love for His people (John 15:13). Furthermore, it manifests itself in the love of Christians for God (Mark 12:30) and for one another, as commanded by Jesus (John 13:34). To clearly proclaim Christian dogma is the most loving thing we can do because it shares with others the only means of escaping an eternity in hell. Are those who believe in Christian dogma closed-minded? Dogmatic Christians are often called closed-minded or narrow-minded. But Christianity, by its very nature, is a closed and narrow faith (see Matthew 7:13–14). Jesus declared Himself to be the only Way, Truth, and Life and that no one comes to God except by Him (John 14:6).”
So next time someone tries to use “dogmatic” as an insult against you when you are standing firm in Biblical truth, take it as a compliment!
Now let’s look at the term “legalistic.” The basic definition of legalistic is “concerning adherence to moral law rather than to personal religious faith.” Ligonier says, “legalism involves abstracting the law of God from its original context.” The word legalism is not actually found in the Bible, but we see it in action throughout people in the Bible, most clearly in the Pharisees in the New Testament. There were many times that Jesus rebuked the Pharisees directly for their misunderstanding and manipulating of the Law. So what is the purpose of the Law? The Law shows God’s holiness and man’s sinfulness. The Law acts as a mirror, that essentially shows us our sins and inability of keeping the Law by our own efforts. No one is capable of keeping all of the laws (apart from Jesus). Romans 3:20 says, “For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.” Similarly, Acts 13:38-39 says, “Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.” This inability to keep the Law should point us to God. Legalists attempt to work to keep the law (and then some, by adding on their own, man-made rules) for their own merit, not out of love for God, and hold others to their same standard. This way of thinking and living opposes God’s grace for believers. So when someone calls you legalistic, they are basically saying you are holding them to a standard that God does not hold them to. False teachers are quick to use this term derogatorily when someone holds them accountable for twisting Scripture or living incongruently with the Bible. Ironically, “it is false teachers and abusers who are pharisaic. They add to God’s Word, the use their authority to exploit people, and are hypocrites” (Costi Hinn). So again, here is another word that is often used falsely out of anger that you are addressing concerns with someone else’s unbiblical choices.
I want to share a few other quotes on this topic, so you can clearly see the manipulation that is taking place when people are trying to attack others out of hurt or anger for being confronted in their sin:
“If talking about what holy living practically looks like is legalism, then Paul, Peter, John, James, and many other men of God would all be legalists by that standard…it is good and right to talk specifically about what it means to be set-apart. The epistles are packed with very specific commandments about how we are to conduct ourselves as Christians. We are not left with vague exhortations to be better people.” -Anneliese from @femininenotist
“Worldliness is everything that makes sin look normal, but obedience and righteousness look legalistic.” -Pursuing Emet
“Don’t throw out righteous living in an effort to avoid legalism.” -Dad.tired
“Striving for holiness is not self-righteous—it’s Christian. Holding right doctrine is not legalistic—it’s obedient.” -Alisha Illian
“It is a false teaching and demonic doctrine that obedience to Christ and His commandments are legalism.” -Genesis Global Ministries
“One of the worst false teachings in the Western church today is a lie that people who look closely at the Word of God and seek to obey it with all their hearts are legalistic.” -Tin Tran
“Some, in an effort to avoid a legalistic Christianity, have blurred the lines of sin and ignored the importance of pursuing holiness.” -Anew Ministries
“The unsaved call obedience ‘legalism,’ while the saved call it ‘love.’” -Tony Wood
“These false teachers follow their sensuality, their lusts, their own ways…those who like the benefits of religion, and know how to give lip service, thinking they can have both the pleasures of the world and God. There’s incongruity. They place a religious spin on their sin and do it in the name of Christian liberty, easily enticed by the false doctrine that we are saved by grace but we don’t need to walk in godly obedience—or that we can partake of the things of the world and presumptuously think we will be unaffected…as the serpent beguiled Eve, they corrupt from the simplicity that is in Christ.” -gospeladorned
Now that we’ve looked at Christian liberty and the terms “dogmatic” and “legalistic,” I’d like to move on to address Christians who are fully embracing and teaching German New Medicine, and what the Bible says about those who participate in or condone ungodly things.
Christians participating in or condoning GNM

As I stated in the introduction of this blog, I felt compelled to share about German New Medicine and why it’s unbiblical because it is directly impacting people in my life. This section may be the most important part that you read because this is what matters for eternity. Following, educating others on, and condoning false teachings is not something God turns a blind eye to. False doctrine is any idea that adds to, takes away from, contradicts, or nullifies the doctrine given in God’s Word. German New Medicine certainly fits that criteria. And contrary to popular belief, it’s not just core doctrine that matters. If someone is believing and teaching anything that twists God’s Word in any way or attempts to change the nature of His character, that is false doctrine and it greatly matters. This is not like having differing views of baptism, spiritual gifts, or eschatology. It is the loving thing for a Christian to tell the truth when it comes to false teachings. 1 Corinthians 13:6 says, “Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.” Jesus showed the perfect example of embodying both truth and love in all that He did. As Doreen Virtue says, “We mustn’t confuse extending grace with passively accepting false teachings.” Love does not mean accepting or applauding others’ choice to sin. We must stand firm in the truth the Bible teaches.
Let’s look at more Bible verses that talk about false teachings to see what God has to say:
“You shall have no other gods before me. “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.” -Exodus 20:3-6
“Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared.” -1 Timothy 4:1-2
“I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive. For your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil.” -Romans 16:17-19
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? So, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit. A healthy tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a diseased tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus you will recognize them by their fruits.” -Matthew 7:15-20
“Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator.” -Romans 1:22-25
“Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” -1 Timothy 4:7–8.

The Bible is extremely clear about false teachings. Christians who attempt to make this unbiblical teaching fit into a Christian worldview are deceived and are deceiving others. Putting the word “Christian” in front of a New Age or pagan belief system does not make that practice Christian, as some who practice German New Medicine would lead you to believe. In their book The Second Coming of the New Age, authors Steven Bancarz and Josh Peck say, “If something does not line up with the Word of God, we should leave it outside the Church—not christianize it.” When asked about where Christians should draw the line in regards to New Age teachings, Phylicia Masonheimer said, “When somebody stops seeing Christ alone as the power source and teaches others to do the same, those are huge red flags. They are trying to pair Jesus with this other framework and redeem it without recognizing they’ve just adjusted the power source.” And even more dangerous than that is a Christian who fully embraces a false teaching but twists things to make it sound more palatable to a Christian audience. For example, according to German New Medicine itself, there is no sovereign God—there is just a sovereign being who has the ultimate power to heal any disease themselves. If a Christian following German New Medicine attempts to say, “Well, God can still be sovereign because it’s ultimately up to Him if and when He heals someone,” they are being deceived. 1 Corinthians 10:21-22 says, “You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons. Are we trying to arouse the Lord’s jealousy? Are we stronger than he?” God is completely sovereign over everything. It’s not us + Him—it is solely HIM. You cannot believe and promote a teaching that says otherwise, while maintaining a Biblical view of the world.
Here are some of the phrases I have heard or read by Christians trying to christianize this belief and a Biblical response to each of them:
“God gave us the Ten Commandments and the Fruits of the Spirit so we’d know how to live so we could be healthy.”
As discussed in the Christian liberty section, one of the reasons the Law was given to us is to show God’s holiness and man’s sinfulness. The Law shows us how incapable we are of adhering to it by ourselves and how much we need a Savior. When a person becomes a follower of Jesus, they receive the power of the Holy Spirit to be sanctified and become more like Christ. God desires our lives as believers to exhibit the fruits of the spirit. Not because by adhering to them means we will obtain health, but because this is the mark of someone who is being sanctified by the Holy Spirit and it brings glory to God. It is essential that anyone reading this understands this clearly: The Law and the Fruits of the Spirit were absolutely not given to us to follow for optimal physical health outcomes. That is a heretical teaching and an abomination.
“GNM makes clear the perfection of God’s design for our bodies.”
God never said He designed our bodies perfectly—He said it was good. The Hebrew word used for “good” in this passage (Genesis 1:31) is “ṭôwb,” which is translated as to be good, pleasing, or favorable. “Yes, God is perfect and He is sovereign, but He never claimed to have created everything with absolute perfection. The Word says He created things ‘good’ and with a proper function. Claiming otherwise means you are attributing a subjective standard to God that He never claimed or set” (Megan Leigh).
“God made no mistakes and how the emotional and physical are connected, it helps you trust your body more.”
Of course God doesn’t make mistakes! But as we talked about in the healing section, sickness and death are part of the curse of sin. God didn’t make a mistake in His sovereignty in allowing our bodies to decay as a result of living in a fallen world either!
“You don’t know why you’re sick, but I do…”
Any human being who claims to have some secret knowledge as to why you have any disease is arrogant and taking on a god-like complex.
“When Christians doubt this, it’s their theological framework that is lacking.” OR “You just don’t understand the Holy Spirit.” OR “I hate seeing Christians stuck in these limiting belief systems.”
People will claim to know more than you do about the Holy Spirit or theology in order to convince you that you are judgmental and closed-minded. Do not let these tactics sway you into accepting a false teaching. Hold EVERYTHING up to God’s Word!
Accepting what God says about our bodies, healing, and His design as laid out for us in the Bible is not a “limiting belief system.” All of these quotes are examples of logical fallacies.
“God does not desire for us to stay stuck in our dysfunction. He does not desire our passivity, but partnership in all things, including the state of our body and psyche.”
God doesn’t need us for anything. And yet, He loves us so much! Not because we are able to do anything to earn it or because we can “partner” with Him, but because of how merciful and compassionate He is! We are to live in surrender and fully trust in Him! All of creation is dependent on the life that God alone sustains.
“The Gospel isn’t just about salvation, God has so much more for us if we believe and receive in faith.”
This thought process mirrors the “Word of Faith” movement or “Prosperity Gospel.” In these false teachings, the believer is told that obtaining happiness and health is possible for them if they just have enough faith in God, whereas true Biblical Christianity is God using the believer however He sees fit. In these teachings, faith is not submissive to trust in God—faith becomes a way in which we manipulate the spiritual laws. What proponents of German New Medicine and Word of Faith/Prosperity Gospel teachers have in common is the belief that what you say, think, or feel determines what happens to you.
Based on what I’ve seen in Christians who are believing and promoting German New Medicine, I believe there are two main groups of people who are susceptible to believing this or other similar false teachings (and they may fit into both categories):
People who are willing to question any reality/believe in any conspiracy theory
I believe there is a connection between people who constantly look for secret knowledge and people who are susceptible to being led astray by false teachings. This is because anything that distracts you from biblical truth makes you susceptible to deception.
9marks.org says, “For many, piecing together threads to form a narrative of blame brings a measure of comfort, a place to locate our rage or find some kind of grand purpose, even if nefarious, for the brokenness of our world.”
While conspiracy theories can be entertaining or interesting and the Bible says we should always seek truth, we should look to scripture to see what Christians’ involvement with conspiracy theories should be.
Daniel 2:30 says, “But as for me, this mystery has been revealed to me, not because of any wisdom that I have more than all the living, but in order that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your mind.” We should never get ahead of what God wishes to reveal to us. God reveals the truth in mystery. God will tell us what we need to know in His time, and there are things we do not need to know. Mark 13:32 says, “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” We should not indulge in useless speculation that takes time and effort away from our work for Christ.
Titus 3:9-11 says, “But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. Warn a divisive person once, and then warn them a second time. After that, have nothing to do with them. You may be sure that such people are warped and sinful; they are self-condemned.” Jerome from Seek to Save says, “Christians would do well to heed Paul’s warning that there is a danger of taking up questions and topics that have little or nothing to do with the gospel’s essential truths.”
9marks.org says, “While we should hope that ‘unfruitful works of darkness’ are exposed, we should avoid the rabbit trail of conspiracy theories because they both distract us from pursuing what is true and good and beautiful and because untruths damage the witness of the church.” Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
A significant issue within the world of conspiracy theories is that it places too much importance on worldly matters and that can often lead to anxiety, fear, or a constant desire for secret knowledge. Best case scenario, conspiracy theories are just a time-killer. Worst case scenario, it draws our attention away from Jesus. Gotquestions.org says, “Avoid the mysteries God hasn’t chosen to reveal yet. Let Him work according to His timing. Rest in His plan, which can never be thwarted.”
As Dan Darling puts it, “The gospel is more emotionally satisfying, in the long run, than a rabbit trail of half-truths… Our connecting of unconnected dots is a cheap substitute for believing the ultimate story that explains the world. The Bible tells us evil and tragedy and sin find their root with the ‘ruler of the power of the air, the spirit now working in the disobedient.’ Satan is the ultimate master conspirator and sin is the virus that has woven its way into every human heart. But we believers know that the man behind the curtain is on a leash, limited in power, and was defeated when Jesus uttered those agonizing words from a Roman cross: ‘It is finished’” (John 19:30)!
The fact that we can so easily access so much information can give us the impression that we can know all, but God doesn’t want us to know everything! God has already connected all of the dots and holds the whole world in His hands!
People looking for more knowledge or control, specifically in regards to health
I know this one well because I’ve lived it. I understand the deep desire to know why something is happening to you. But on a quest to search for answers for your health or new healing modalities, we can be swept up and before we know it, have made our health an idol or be following an unbiblical teaching in regards to healing. Our ultimate hope in this life is not physical healing or perfect health. Our treasure is in the Lord and the eternal life He has promised. It is not possible to create a utopia on earth, but this is good news because we have the hope of eternal life in Heaven with Jesus!
I came across functional/“root cause” medicine on my health journey and while it has been such a blessing to finally have a diagnosis, there are many New Age teachings seeping into natural health communities like these. Even if someone claims to be a Christian, they may be deceived and be deceiving others. For example, I followed a Christian health practitioner on Instagram who started sharing about how useful crystal pendulums are for diagnosing things. Because she was a Christian, I foolishly thought maybe she was onto something that other Christians hadn’t caught onto yet. Surely she must have discernment if she was a Christian, right? For a few days, I wondered if it was something I should look into. But as I prayed about it and looked in God’s Word, I knew it was not a biblical practice any Christian should be engaging in. I share this story to say that Christians can easily be led astray if they are not holding everything up to scripture. It doesn’t matter who is promoting something—whether they claim to be a follower of Christ or not!
Phylicia Masonheimer says, “The issue is not our freedom to find holistic practitioners, but to be very discerning in who these practitioners are and what power they are tapping into. The idea that ‘all truth is God’s truth’ so we can partner with any spirituality is not just a form of universalism, it flies in the face of what the early church lived and taught. It is biblically, historically, and spiritually deceptive. It is never too late to walk away.”
And for those who don’t have chronic health issues but find themselves embracing German New Medicine, I would venture to say that it is appealing to them because it gives them a false sense of control in an area that can be full of uncertainties. You can eat the best diet, exercise the right amount, take all the supplements, and get the perfect amount of sleep and still end up with disease. That leaves a lot of people feeling uneasy about their health. But instead of that leading us to attempting to find the answers within ourselves, as German New Medicine does, it should point us to God—our Great Comforter!
Deception comes in all shapes and sizes, but it usually resembles a false light. If something points us to our own power within ourselves, and thus opposes a complete surrender to God, it is not biblical. Proverbs 18:15 says, “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks it out.”
As I shared in the German New Medicine Teaching part of this post, this is a quote from Nellie Barnett, co-founder of Germanic Healing Knowledge Global: “The portal to the entire Universe is through your own eye. You are the way, the truth, and the light…the answer and the antidote you’ve been looking for.” If the middle part of that quote sounds awfully familiar it’s because it’s being ripped out and twisted from the Bible. John 14:6 says, “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” Why would someone who isn’t a Christian use words to describe humans that Jesus used to describe Himself? 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 says, “For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.”
Finally, I want to talk about division. While it is always the goal that the body of Christ can stay in unity, we are told in the Bible that the truth will divide. In Luke 12:51-53, Jesus says, “Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”
Jesus makes it clear that there will be division amongst those who stand for truth and those who do not. Haley Williams crucially points out, “If someone is preaching truth, they are not dividing from the true body of Christ--they are standing firm on what the bible teaches and calling people back to truth. The true body will agree with what the Bible teaches. Dividing from error is biblical and necessary; it’s the error, misapplication, and twisting of scripture that causes division. The gospel is valuable and to be guarded. It’s the loving thing to do to recognize false teachings.”
The truth is always worth fighting for. The best thing we can do for Christians believing and teaching things that are unbiblical like German New Medicine is to pray for them! Pray for God to open their eyes to the deception and that they might fully trust in God and glorify Him in all that they do!
Summary of why GNM is unbiblical

If you’ve made it this far, you have just digested a lot of information! I want to begin to wrap things up by going over the top reasons I believe, based on God’s Word, that German New Medicine is not compatible with Biblical Christianity:
It denies sin and the need for a Savior
It is a spiritual reality that diseases, illnesses, cancer, death, etc. are a result of sin entering the world. If these things are not a result of sin, as German New Medicine teaches, then sin cannot exist at all. And if that’s true, why would anyone need Jesus? By teaching that all disease is a result of a conflict shock + healing phase, Dr. Hamer and those who perpetuate his teachings are either directly or indirectly telling the lie that sin is not a reality and that we don’t need a Savior.
GNM also justifies sinful actions and behaviors, chalking them up to conflict shocks, healing phases, and hanging healings. We see this directly in Dr. Hamer’s theory of “constellations,” where he says that multiple conflict shocks explain addictions to porn or sex, homosexuality, why people abuse others, why people murder, why people are suicidal, why people are depressed, etc. He also uses this theory to explain other sinful behaviors, such as seeking perfection, being prideful, being lazy, being overly aggressive, being unrighteously angry, etc. As Christians, we already know why people do those things or suffer with those things—because of sin! If someone tries to rationalize addictions, crime, mental illness, and other sinful behavior by saying they happen because of various conflict shocks that haven’t reached a healing phase or that have recurring tracks, they are diminishing the depraved reality of the sinful human nature apart from Christ.
It denies God’s sovereignty
Because German New Medicine teaches that diseases are a result of a conflict shock + healing phase and that by processing through your conflict shock YOU have the power alone to heal yourself, it denies the total and complete sovereignty of God—in both His allowing disease and healing disease!
It idolizes health & self
The ultimate goal in life is not to have optimal physical health. When everything revolves around healing ourselves from conflict shocks/trauma, we are missing the point of our existence, which is to glorify God. As we discussed in the healing and suffering portions of the theology segment, Christians will suffer in their lives. God will ordain trials for you to walk through with Him because trials produce character and endurance, and most of all, trials are an opportunity for us to bring glory to God! If we are so focused on ourselves and healing, we are making our health an idol. Furthermore, if we believe we have the ability to heal ourselves by processing trauma and by doing so can be made whole, we don’t need anyone but ourselves. When we believe that all of the answers to our problems are within ourselves, we are making ourselves into little gods, thus making an idol out of the self.
Part 5: Conclusion
“Some will experience the sovereign healing hand of God in this life. While some will suffer and not be healed until heaven. In every circumstance, let these truths from the word of God bring comfort to your soul, and to your body. Your years of suffering and uncertainty are but a vapor here on earth. Much of science is incredible and is compatible with the Bible because God made it. But if we put our faith in science instead of God, we are depending on sinful, mortal men. As we have looked at extensively in this post, Dr. Hamer is not only not someone any Christian should want to emulate, but his teachings are riddled with false and dangerous claims and rooted in New Age ideology. Science has been wrong about many things since the beginning of time, but God is never wrong. Reject anything that puts human knowledge above God.
The enemy will use anything to deceive you or take your focus off of Jesus and put it onto yourself, including other people and false teachings. Our itching, human ears want to hear things that elevate ourselves or make us feel like we can control things—but that is not what we are called to as believers. This goes back to the Garden of Eden when the serpent said to Eve, “Did God really say…?” He made her question the truth and he is still doing that today. Even if you are the only person who is standing up for what is Biblical, what is good, and what is true—stand strong in that! Pray that God will give you the strength and wisdom to continue to follow His truth (the only truth!) and not be deceived.
To conclude, these are basic facts all Christians should be able to agree on: God is the Creator of everything. We are to worship the Creator—not the created. God created our bodies and said they were good (not perfect). These good bodies did not evolve or develop a Mother Nature-endowed intelligence over millions of years. The amazing ways in which our bodies function exist because of God’s good design. Disease and death exist in the world because of the curse of sin. The curse of sin leads to death. We all need a Savior, Jesus, as the wages of sin is death. When we repent and believe, Jesus will forgive all the sins we have ever committed or will ever commit. We will live eternally with Him in Heaven after we die, where there will be no more sickness, sadness, or sin. Having a Savior does not mean you will not experience suffering and sickness in this life. All humans will experience disease and death in their lifetime. Humans do not have the ability to sovereignly heal themselves of all diseases. Humans do not have the ability to know why each person will develop a disease. The answers for these things are not within ourselves, but in God. We can trust that God has sovereignly revealed the things He wants us to know in this time, without seeking secret knowledge from unbiblical places out of fear or out of a desire to control aspects of our lives. Our hope is not in our health, but in Jesus Christ. As Costi Hinn says, “Surrender is the safest place to be.”
